Roses
(The try-your-luck rolling game)
Players: 2+
Time: 5 - 15 minutes per round
Complexity: 3/10
Setup
Each round of this game requires six randomly selected cubes and a pen and paper to note the scores.
If you pick any of the wildcubes, discard them and pick again.
Aim of the game
The winner of Roses is the first player to reach 1000 points. Players attempt to gather point-scoring groups of numbers, while evaluating if the risk of losing all of their unbanked points is worth the lure of getting a few more points.
How to play
Roses is played by two or more players, with each player in succession having a turn at rolling the 6 cubes. Each player’s turn results in a score and the scores for each player accumulate to reach the winning total of 1000.
Every player will use the same six cubes pulled from the bag.
At the beginning of a player’s turn, they roll all 6 cubes at once.
After each roll, one or more scoring cubes must be set aside (see section on scoring below).
The player may then either end their turn and bank the score accumulated so far towards their overall cumulative score, or continue to throw the remaining cubes.
If none of the cubes score in any given roll, the player has rolled “Thorns” and all points for that turn are lost.
If the player has scored with all six of the cubes, they have rolled “Roses” and may continue their turn with a new throw of all six cubes, adding to the score they have already accumulated that turn. However, if on that turn they subsequently roll “Thorns”, all those points would still be lost.
Once a player has decided to stop rolling and bank their points, their score is added to their cumulative total and the cubes are handed to the next player in a clockwise rotation, and they have their turn.
Once a player has reached 1000 points, they win the game.
If you’re playing another round, pick 6 new cubes and go again!
