Privet
(The “stay on your own side” game)
Players: 2 - 4
Time: 30 - 60 minutes
Complexity: 4/10
Setup
This game requires all 216 cubes.
The 216 cubes are set up randomly in a 6x6x6 cube.
Tip: A quick way of doing this is if half of the players make lines of 6 cubes, and the other half stack these lines into the cube.
Each player plays one side of the cube each, position yourself facing that side.
If playing with two players, sit at opposite sides of the 6x6x6 cube.
Aim of the game
The winner of the game is the first player to get cubes with the numbers from 0 to 9 (in order) of two different colours, face up, on the table in front of them.
How to play
Randomly decide who goes first.
On their go, a player may pick one cube that has at least three faces showing, no cubes on top and a face on their side of the cube showing. So, for the very first go, this is only the two top corners of the large 6x6x6 cube on their side.
If the selected cube has a 0 of any colour on it, the player keeps it and places it 0 side up in front of them. This is the start of their row for that colour, and they may have a row for each colour, aiming to complete two of those rows first to win. If it doesn’t have a 0, they must discard it. Each cube taken opens up new possible options.
Play then progresses to the next player, clockwise around the group. Take it in turns to take one cube with at least three faces showing, no cubes on top and a face on their side showing.
If the cube selected has the next number that the player needs in any colour, it is placed that colour up in front of them on the table.
If the cube could be added to multiple rows, the player may choose which row to add it to at this point, but once it is placed on the table, that decision is final.
If the cube selected does not have the correct number for any colour, it must be discarded.
Once a player has 0 to 9 of two different colours face up on the table in front of them, they are crowned the winner.
Possible alternative rules
To change the length of the game, you can increase or decrease the number of colours you need to complete from 0 to 9 to win.
For an extra long game, play until all the cubes are taken from the 6x6x6 cube and whoever gets closest to finishing all 6 colours wins the game. If a player does finish all 6 rows before all the cubes are taken, they win.
